European giants tracking Billy Gilmour

Share He might be just 15 years of age, but Ranger teenager Billy Gilmour already has European giants lining up behind him.

Premier League top clubs have been recently joined by Barcelona and Bayern Munich in a tracking party of the talented Rangers playmaker, who is tipped to make a huge name for himself in the future.

The 15-year-old Billy Gilmour was most recently in action with Scotland’s Under 16s in the Victory Shield and Daily Record are reporting that the Catalan giants Barcelona sent one of their high-ranked scouts to watch the talent run rule over the game against France.

Teenage midfielder is also being tracked by Manchester United and City, Arsenal and Chelsea as Rangers face a challenging task of keeping hold of their wonder boy.

Should any of the top European sides persuade Gilmour to join them, Rangers would receive as little as £100,000 in training compensation when FIFA allow approaches from interesting clubs. Fri 4 Nov, 2016RSS Feed

Arsenal, Milan vying for Malang Sarr

Share Talended French defender Malang Sarr is causing quite a stir with his quality performances for Ligue 1 side Nice this season.

According to French media outlet Le 10 Sport, Serie A giants AC Milan and Premier League heavyweights Arsenal have both been keeping close tabs on the highly-rated 17-year-old.

Malang Sarr broke into the Nice first team this season and even scored a goal in his debut match against Rennes, after spending the last year playing for the reserve team.

Having played every Ligue 1 game so far in the campaign, Sarr has had a great hand in helping Nice reach top of the standings. His widely impressive performances have earned great praise and have prompted Nice to offer Sarr his first professional contract in order to keep the interested parties at bay.

Sarr will reportedly be offered a long-term deal with a release clause of around €50 million which should help Nice hold on to their talent for now. Fri 4 Nov, 2016RSS Feed LAST 5 POSTS BY MILOS MARKOVIC

Stevan Jovetic back on Fiorentina radar

Share Serie A outfit Fiorentina are once again being linked with their former star Stevan Jovetic.

The Montenegro international is currently heavily marginalised at Inter and is thought to be looking for a way out of the club after playing only three Serie A games so far this season.

His impact has been reduced by injuries and poor form and Viola are ready to offer their former key player an escape route in January. Fiorentina made efforts to bring Jovetic on loan during the summer transfer window, but the deal eventually fell through as Inter were unwilling to make a contribution to the player’s wages.

La Nazione reports however that Viola remain keen on the player who made his name playing for five years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, before making a move to Manchester City in the 2013-14 season.

It is now suggested that Fiorentina would be prepared to sell their forward Mauro Zarate in order to accommodate the arrival of Stevan Jovetic in financial terms. Fri 4 Nov, 2016RSS Feed LAST 5 POSTS BY MILOS MARKOVIC

Liverpool appoint Edwards as sporting director

Share Liverpool have appointed Michael Edwards as sporting director as part of a “restructuring of football operations” at the Premier League club. Edwards joined Liverpool in 2011 as head of analytics before progressing to director of technical performance.

Most recently, he worked as technical director at Anfield and will now oversee the club’s work in terms of player acquisition and improvements at their Melwood training ground.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hailed Edwards’ appointment, praising the 37-year-old’s abilities and welcoming a move to the sporting director model that he worked under with considerable success at Borussia Dortmund.

“This decision is hugely positive for us and it will make us better and stronger in managing the process of building and retaining playing talent at all age groups,” Klopp said on the club’s official website.

“Development is so important and it makes sense to have a position, within the football structure specifically, that focuses on where we can improve. “It’s no secret I like the concept of a sporting director and having worked under this model previously I have found it to be nothing but positive and forward-thinking.

“Michael is absolutely the right person for this. He has the knowledge, expertise and personality to flourish in the role and I was delighted when he told me he would be accepting the position.

“Importantly, he also has a fantastic team of people around him, who have all played a significant role in putting together the talent we currently have in the first team, development squad and at even younger age levels.”

Edwards cited Klopp’s faith in his methods as an influence on him accepting the role. He said: “I’ve been proud to be part of the football operations structure here at Liverpool and it’s a great honour to be asked to lead it going forward, in this new role of sporting director.

“Jurgen’s belief and confidence in what we have done is also welcomed and was a big factor in me making the decision to accept this position.

“It’s critical that we are always focused on development and improvement across all areas of the football operation. It’s an exciting challenge to be tasked with the responsibility of reviewing our practices and then implementing positive changes as and when they are needed.”

Champions League the ultimate goal for Atletico, says Godin

Share Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin says winning the Champions League is a priority for his side this season. Diego Simeone’s side lost the 2015-16 final in May to city rivals Real Madrid in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw after extra-time at San Siro.

The bitter defeat prompted the Atletico boss to consider his future at the club, given that it came just two years on from a 4-1 extra-time loss to Madrid in the final in Lisbon, although he ultimately decided to stay on.

Atleti secured their place in the last 16 of this season’s competition with Tuesday’s 2-1 home win over Rostov, and Godin is determined to push for the trophy once more in order to pay back their supporters for those defeats.

“Of course it would be the best prize for all the fans, it’s what we Atleticos are dreaming of and we will continue looking for it,” he said, as quoted by Marca.

“It’s a dream because we’re competing for it and we’re going after it. It’s clearly one of our objectives, so it’s a dream and an objective – one more on top of the league and the cup.” Godin believes the strength in depth at the Vicente Calderon could give Atletico a real chance of challenging for the treble.

“We have a great squad, I don’t know if it’s the best because there have been great players at Atletico,” he said.

“But there’s a lot of competition and a number of options that gives the coach a lot more possibilities to look for results.”

The Uruguay centre-back has won a host of honours under Simeone, including LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, the Europa League and two UEFA Super Cups.

When asked if the Argentine was the best coach he had worked for, however, he 30-year-old stressed that Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez could not be overlooked.

“I love Cholo and I respect him hugely,” he said. “It’s difficult to be objective when there are so many feelings involved, because my coach at Uruguay, the maestro Tabarez, I’ve had 10 years with him.

“I’ve learned a huge amount not only in football but away from it, too. There are also great coaches at the moment who are doing great things and we have to highlight them.”

BREAKING NEWS: Toure apologises to Manchester City

Share Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has issued a statement apologising for criticisms aimed at manager Pep Guardiola by his agent Dimitri Seluk in an apparent attempt to salvage his career with the Premier League leaders.

Toure’s solitary competitive appearance during Guardiola’s Etihad Stadium tenure came in the second leg of the Champions League play-off tie against Steaua Bucharest and he was subsequently left out of City’s squad for the competition proper.

That prompted an extended vilification of Guardiola from Seluk, who had previously questioned the manager’s capabilities after he sanctioned Toure’s move to City in 2010 while in charge of Barcelona.

Guardiola responded by stating Toure would not be selected for City again until he said sorry for his representative’s actions. In a statement on his Facebook page posted on Friday, this appears to be what the 33-year-old has offered, although neither Guardiola or Seluk are mentioned by name.

“I wish to apologise – on behalf of myself and those who represent me – to the management team and all those working at the club for the misunderstandings from the past,” Toure said.

“Those statements do not represent my views on the club or the people who work there. I have nothing but respect for Manchester City and only wish the best for the football club.

“I am immensely proud to have played a part in the club’s history and want to help City succeed further. I live to play football and entertain the fans.

“On that note, I would like to thank all of the fans for their messages through this difficult period. This means a great deal to me and my family.” Fri 4 Nov, 2016RSS Feed LAST 5 POSTS BY SOCCERNEWS
